I lost my password. How do I get the password cleared?  return to top

A: All Carrier Access products requiring a password clear must be sent to the Repair Center for a nominal fee of $250.00 per controller card. Units sent to Carrier Access are entitled to our routine refurbishment process, which includes:

Note: For about the same price, you may be able to cover your unit under a contract, allowing you to receive extended warranty (including the password clear) and 24x7 technical support. For more information, please visit our Customer Care Support Services Center.

Are the cards for the Adit 600 hot swappable?  return to top

A: Yes. All controller and service cards can be removed and reinserted under power.
Note: This does not mean that the hot swap will not affect traffic.

Can I bring in a PRI trunk and break it out in BRI lines using the Adit 600 ISDN BRI card?  return to top

A: No. PRI and BRI line trunk use different types of signaling which the Adit 600 can not convert. A PRI line can only be used on the Adit 600 in a drop and insert type application.

Can I use a T1 from the Quad T1 card in an MLPPP configuration with the IP router card or the CMG Router card?  return to top

A: Yes. These ports can be part of the multi-link configuration.

Can the Adit 600 terminate a PRI line?  return to top

A: No. The Adit 600 cannot terminate a PRI line. A PRI line can only be used on the Adit 600 in a drop and insert type application where the Adit 600 is only handling the T1 DS0s in a cross-connect mode.

Do the Quad TSR ports, when configured for Ethernet, provide individual router ports, or do they provide switched Ethernet ports with one IP address?  return to top

A: Quad TSR ports configured for Ethernet using jumper settings on the card provide LAN switched ports that share the common IP address assigned in the LAN profile.

Do the T1s in an Multi-Link PPP need to be the same size?  return to top

A: Yes. The Adit 600 MLPPP data portion of a T1 must be equal in through put size.  If not, then the Multi Link PPP will only work as fast as two times the slowest link.

Does Carrier Access hold an interoperability certificate for the Adit 600 CMG platform with Asterisk-based systems?  return to top

A: No. Asterisk is an open source platform and therefore, Carrier Access cannot perform the same level of interoperability testing with these products as we can with other softswitch systems that are developed and sold by a specific organization.

Does the Adit 600 115/-48V power supply, part number 730-0040, convert DC to AC power?  return to top

A: No. The 115/-48V power supply does not convert DC to AC power. It allows the use of either DC or AC power supply sources. It also allows the unit to be powered from an AC power source with a DC battery backup system in case of power failure.

Does the Adit 600 support all types of Modems?  return to top

A: No. The Adit 600 supports V.90 modem standards.

Does the Adit 600 support multiple proxy statements?  return to top

A: The Adit 600 will only support one proxy statement per chassis due to architectural constraints.

Does the Quad TSR card support mixed ports of Ethernet and RS-232?  return to top

A: The Quad TSR card does support setting the ports using jumpers on the card to either Ethernet or RS-232. Cards set to RS-232 provide asynchronous communications with baud rates between 11 and 691200 bps. An IP address is assigned to each port configured for RS-232 that allows remote serial communication to a serial device connected to the RS-232 port. The Quad TSR is adjustable via jumpers in the board of the card it self. See the Adit 600 9.4 User Manual page 560.

Every time I telnet into my Adit 600 with a routing card installed (CMG Router, IP Router, TSR), I get logged into the router card and not the TDM CLI. How can I set up my Adit 600 to telnet into the CLI instead of the routing card?  return to top

A: You will need to set up the proxy. The proxy configures the redirection of a telnet session from the routing card back to the TDM CLI when connected through the routing card, whether locally or remotely. The three proxy configuration examples are listed below:

LAN with unnumbered WAN

* - Sample IP address only

LAN with Numbered WAN

NAT config

Note: Firewalls are not providing security; they are simply directing Ping and Telnet traffic.

How can I find out what service cards and software versions I have in my Adit 600 chassis?  return to top

A: Type "status equipment" from the command line and press Enter. Also, when you first log into the Adit 600 CLI, an automatic "status equipment" command is issued and displayed. You can also issue the commands “show image” for the controller software or “show 6 image” (i.e. CMG, IP Router and Quad TSR).

How do I configure my Adit 600 for a drop and insert application using a PRI line?  return to top

A: The incoming and outgoing T1 lines need to be set to type data. With this configuration, the Adit 600 will ignore the signaling from the D channel on the PRI trunk and pass-through all traffic. If your connecting an entire PRI T1 then you will need the following cross connect to be entered in the Adit 600 CLI “connect a:1:1-24 a:2:1-24” this will create the pass through for the PRI.

How many router cards can be installed in Adit 600 chassis?  return to top

A: Up to six router cards per Adit 600 chassis

How many WAN connections can you have per Adit router card?  return to top

A: You can have up to 8 logical WAN interfaces per router card with version 1.03 and lower, or 24 logical WAN interfaces per router card with version 1.10 and higher.

How many WANs can I configure using the IP Router card or the CMG Router card?  return to top

A: The IP Router card and the CMG Router cards can support up to 24 WANs per card. Using all 24 WAN profiles will decrease CMG performance.

I am bringing in two T1 lines, each from a different carrier, and I am getting clocking slips on my lines. How should I configure the Adit 600 clock source?  return to top

A: Carrier Access always recommends that the Adit 600 be configured to line timing. However, in the case of two separate carriers, the Adit 600 will be receiving two different clock sources which can result in clocking errors. To avoid clocking errors on the line, either one of the carriers will need to take a clock from the Adit 600 while the other one feeds in, or two separate Adit 600s should be used to break out the T1s respectively.

I am interested in the Adit 600 and want to offer a site traditional channel bank services, but also provide 1/0 multiplexing to combine in data. Can I mix voice and data on a T1 to provide a site with voice and data services?  return to top

A: Yes. Individual T1 DS0s can be allocated as either voice or data. The voice DS0s would be cross-connected to FXS cards to provide connectivity to a PBX, or directly to analog phones. Data DS0s would be cross-connected on the backplane from the incoming T1 (such as A:1) to an outgoing T1 (such as A:2), then on to an external router at the site. You can also add a CMG card and have the remaining data DSOs be transported out the CMG Ethernet port.

I have placed a card into a slot on the Adit 600, but the card is not recognized. What is the problem?  return to top

A: Newer card types require newer versions of controller software in order to be recognized by the controller. Please see the Adit 600 User Manual for card software requirements.

I just unpacked a new Adit 600 unit that we have had on the shelf for several years. When I powered up the unit, a "status equipment” indicated that in "Slot A" there was a card type of "ITE". The Controller does not seem to support E1 TDM services on the controller. What is the problem?  return to top

A: A unit with an "ITE" controller is purposely built to only provide VoIP services through the Ethernet on the CMG card. An ITE unit supports the following cards: E1 TDM Controller (no TDM E1 services), FXS-5G (International only card version), V.34/V.35 card, and CMG (Customer Media Gateway) VoIP card (controlled via mandatory external softswitch). This can be fixed by doing the following during the boot process, you will see an opportunity to interrupt the boot sequence. It will say something like "Press any key to stop the boot process". Press any key. You will now be at the boot prompt. Type “1” enter, then type “e db” enter. Once this is complete, type “x” enter to boot from flash. When the Adit 600 comes back up, you will have access to the E1 ports.

I want to be able to bridge a LAN across two Adit 600s in order to provide seamless LAN subnet connectivity for a remote site. Is there a way to do this?  return to top

A: The Adit 600 can bridge a LAN across the WAN ports of two Adit 600s using a routing card (CMG Router, IP Router, Quad TSR) in each Adit 600. This is accomplished by setting the IP WAN mode to "Bridge" instead of the default of "Route", and then configuring the LAN IP address to different IP addresses within the same subnet / network mask on each routing card.

I would like to provide VoIP at a site, what do I need to accomplish this with the Adit 600?  return to top

A: The Adit 600 supports VoIP applications including the packetization of FXS analog voice. The CMG (Customer Media Gateway) card supports only MGCP (Media Gateway Control Protocol) and is needed in conjunction with the FXS cards and Adit 600 chassis to provide this functionality.

I'm connected to the Adit 600 TDM Command Line Interface (CLI) with FXS cards installed. I need to connect to a T1 for TDM-based voice. How do I configure the Adit 600 backplane software cross-connects?  return to top

A: To configure the backplane software cross-connects for FXS cards to support TDM voice, you need to first set the type of the T1 to voice DS0s:
set a:1: type voice
OK

For a full T1, connect three (3) FXS cards (24 channels total), ports 1-8, to a T1 using the following commands:
connect a:1:1-8 1:1-8
OK
connect a:1:9-16 2:1-8
OK
connect a:1:17-24 2:1-8
OK

Is the router card Firewall capable?  return to top

A: The router card is capable of being a Firewall.

My computer does not have a serial port, it only has USB ports. How can I connect to the RS-232 port on the back of the Adit 600?  return to top

A: Newer computers are now shipping from manufacturers without serial ports and only have USB ports. In order to connect from a USB port to the serial port on the back of the Adit, you will need a DB-9 male to DB-9 female straight-through cable as well as a USB to serial DB-9 male dongle adapter cable. These specific USB to serial dongle adapter cables translate the serial communications between the Adit 600 RS-232 management port and the computer’s USB port. Most of these adapters require installation of specific device driver''s, usually included on a CD-ROM.

Radio Shack: Model PA088U

This will place you at the Adit 600 TDM CLI (Command Line Interface). Note you may have to press Enter to get a response from the CLI.

It should be noted that keyboard/mouse PS-2 adapters that translate PS-2 to USB connectors do not have the requisite serial communications translation to communicate between the computer and Adit 600 RS-232 serial port.

My computer has a wireless connection in addition to a standard Ethernet port. Will I have problems connecting to the Adit 600 through the standard Ethernet port??  return to top

A: You will need to disable your wireless Ethernet connection in order to connect through your standard Ethernet port to the Adit 600. The wireless connection will interfere with the standard Ethernet IP port’s connection to the Adit 600.

My laptop is configured to get an IP address through DHCP. How can I change this so I can connect to an Adit 600 locally?  return to top

A: You will need to go into your computer’s Network Connections menu and change the TCP/IP settings to "Use the following IP Address" instead of "Obtain an IP Address automatically". You will then enter an IP address/network mask that is in the same subnet/network mask as the Adit 600 to which you want to connect, as well as setting the default gateway to the IP address of the Adit 600 Ethernet IP address. This applies to both the Adit 600 Ethernet management port, as well as the Adit 600 router cards (i.e. CMG Router, IP Router, and Quad TSR).
